“I have called you by name…”

But now, this is what the Lord says—
    he who created you, Jacob,
    he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
Isaiah 43:1-2

On Friday 8th October 2021 my Dad received news that he had stage IV pancreatic cancer. Early on Tuesday 23rd November 2021, while listening to Revelation, he went to be with his Lord.

When he shared the initial news with us he wrote: “Isaiah 43 is of great comfort and I am at peace. Maybe the last chapter will be the best yet.”

From the moment of his diagnosis Dad’s eyes were directed towards heaven. There were many tears, concerns, hopes and dreams changed. But throughout, his vision of eternity became clearer and clearer. It was a privilege to witness that and be part of some of those conversations.

I took many notes during that time, of what Dad said, our conversations and my own reflections. This song is based on some of those conversations. It was shared at his thanksgiving service.
